erick and maya | love in the fairy tale land

Hello everyone!

Woke up in the morning with gloomy sky..not long after the rain started to pour. Drove to office via local road and reached office even faster than I normally drove via highway. Ahh… it’s the perfect day for us to update our blog =) Today is the 1st day of Ramadhan, we want to wish all our Moslem friends a happy holy month of Ramadhan.

The past 2 months have been the most hectic months for us since we started this business. We had to travel across Asia to Shanghai, then Singapore, then to Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok before we managed to return home safely, and of course with a mountain size of backlogs. And we have to clear them as many as possible before Hari Raya as there will be a loooonnggg holiday here in Indonesia. We need to work hard before a deserving break =p

Well, here is one of them. Meet Erick and Maya, two fun and lovable young couple who are about to tie their knots soon in October this year, who gave us so much fun and joy of capturing their love story for two days in Singapore. The first day was at Universal Studio and the second day was around downtown area. We were so blessed to be given perfect weather for those two days considering the days before and after were raining super heavily. I guess we prayed too hard..:DEven on the morning of the shoot, the weather forecast forecasted a heavy thunderstorm but God answers our prayers and gave us the perfect weather.

Welcome to Far Far Away =D I don’t know about you but En-En is crazy about anything that has to do with cartoons and theme parks, so when we went to Far Far Away Castle, she told me everything about Shrek.

We really love the emotions here… Maya seems so relaxed with Eric around

Usually, the ladies loves the camera more than their men. But for this couple, Maya is more camera shy and Erick is just awesome, he’s able to make Maya smile and laugh with all his teasing and jokes =D

Steamy hot shot next =p Reminds us of Titanic… without the hands on the steamy window =p

In love with the backlit here =)

Erick actually did proposed to Maya on a flight of stairs near Maya’s apartment

Downtown area session was awesome as well, we went to the famous red wall in Orchard Road and we looooooove this photo =D

One of Maya’s favorite past time is reading books and Erick loves Japanese animation, so we headed over to Bon Gout, a restaurant that also sells Japanese books. They are famous for their japanese curry, we met the owner and asked for her permission to take photos there and she said “as long as none of my customers will be captured in the photo, it’s ok” Hehe =)

inspire+ | a workshop by Louis Pang

Anyone in Malaysia must have known Louis Pang. He is Malaysia’s most awarded wedding and portrait photographer. Louis is one of the few wedding photographers out there we highly respect and admire. His works and how he runs his photography business have been inspiring us so far. And above all, he is a great teacher and a very humble photographer and friend.

Louis has apprenticed to Joe McNally, a lighting guru and photography master who we hope to apprentice with him one day. We both met Louis and Joe personally when we attended “Let There Be Light” seminar in Kuala Lumpur earlier this year. So when we heard Louis organized another workshop and seminar about ‘lighting’ and ‘business in photography’, we signed up immediately.

So last week we headed to Kuala Lumpur to attend his workshop and seminar along with two other photographers whom I used to work closely with. One is YC, my ex-partner in crime when we both first got into photography world. The other one is Lester, now a senior photographer to take over most of my responsibilities at the company I worked at.

The first day was a workshop, Louis shared with us his skills and techniques on how he normally handles light (both ambient and artificial) and how he normally interact with the subjects (here we’re talking about the couple and their friends/relatives) to pose them naturally. The day ended with two 1-hour practical sessions when he splited us into small groups. I managed to group up with YC, but separated with En-En and Lester.

The second day was a seminar, we seated with other 90 photographers who are hungry to hear about how Louis runs his photography business from zero to where he is now.

We’d like to dedicate this page to Louis and his wife Jasmine. Thank you for sharing everything. We surely learnt a lot from you at inspire+ and hope to see you again next year in Bandung =)

Below are some photos taken during the workshop.

Low key shots of a bride with ambient light coming in from the window as the light source.

A shot taken under the harshest light situation with the help of skylite to diffuse it.

During the practical sessions, each group has to come up with ideas on where, what, or how to shoot..
Here we were trying to proof that 3 SB 900s will be able to fight the sun. It was proven! The first photo was showing that the power of the flashes were a bit too low to fight the sun.

But we then succeeded…and things went from good to better.. =)

Then we tried to imitate the sun during sunset coming through the window. Here we used this wall partition as the window…

How one small flash is able to achieve so many things…

And how we can play with ambient light…

Or use snoot to direct and concentrate where the light will fall…

Or…to use one strobe and one reflector to achieve this…

“Light makes photography. Embrace light. Admire it. Love it. But above all, know light. Know it for all you are worth, and you will know the key to photography.” ~George Eastman

lim seng & yvonne | simply elegant

Back at our office in Bandung – Indonesia when we were busy with all the preparation for our new office, I received a phone call to my Singapore number. I picked it up and it was Yvonne enquiring for our service to shoot her wedding day which was less than a month away from then. About two weeks after, I met up with the couple for coffee. Lim Seng is a very serious and a man of few words and Yvonne is very friendly and cheerful..that is my first impression about them.

After things were set, we flew into Singapore a day before their big day. The next day started around noon at Yvonne’s place and followed by church ceremony at 2 pm. Once the ceremony and buffet reception were done, they requested to have an outdoor photoshoot. That’s when we decided to go CHIJMES, and that’s where we finally got to know the other side of their personalities.

Yvonne is still a very kind, lovable, elegant, and easy going lady. And Lim Seng, when finally loosen up, showed us how he could be so cheeky with his serious face. The two really expressed how much they love each other. It’s also so sweet to see how Lim Seng can LOL only when Yvonne is around =)

We must say that we really enjoyed every moment shooting them. Their wedding was very simple yet elegant and memorable at the same time.

These photos are to share with you what a fun couple they are.. =D
Once again, a BIG Congratulations to Lim Seng and Yvonne and have an awesome marriage!

Two souls with but a single thought. Two hearts that beat as one. ~Friedrich Halm

When people fall in love… their hearts blossom and the smile you see on their faces, is a reflection of the smile you see in their hearts.

They have bears as their wedding rings’ bodyguards =)

Yvonne is not just any other bride. I love how she prepares an extra pair of flat shoes, so that when her feet got tired, she could just slip into them! En-en said she would have done the same thing and maybe even bring crocs =p

Yvonne told us at the end of the ceremony her eyes felt heavy because of the fake lashes… we bet all brides can relate to that.

Isn’t she gorgeous? She’s definitely a classic!

Before walking down the aisle, Yvonne took time to go into the prayer room for some quiet time =)

That’s Lilian, the maid of honor + the best friend since primary school + a cool person to hang out with! Thanks Lilian for all your help that day!

The father unites them as one.

Here, they lit up their unity candles while Rachel, Yvonne’s niece, said a little prayer for her aunt & uncle <3

Lilian wrapped the certificate of marriage so pretty we just had to take a shot of it! =)

After the ceremony and reception were done, we headed down to CHIJMES for some outdoor shoot! Here is when we saw a different side of them and here is where all the FUN began! Before we started this session, I asked Yvonne if she wanted to changed to her flat shoes so that she would be more comfortable, she said with a smile “mmmm… it’s ok. You know, vain =p”

Yvonne is a natural at posing and her presence helped Lim Seng to loosen up, and he was able to smile and laughed with her by his side.

So..getting up to sit on the stone is easy, but getting down is a little tough… watch what happened next after this shot… =p

This photo never fails to make us laugh =D Thank you Lim Seng, for going along with our crazy ideas =)

While we were talking with Lilian… Lim Seng did a funny pull on Yvonne’s face…and Yvonne did her revenge on Lim Seng as well!! Haha..good job guys!

Their wedding rings <3

For some reasons, the next photo reminds me of a korean movie drama… Haha..

and sealed it with a kiss <3 <3

How do you like our new face for the blog? Tell us what you think =)
